Everybody likes to feel secure. It’s a pretty simple and universal truth. We like to feel secure in our homes, in our cars and in our neighborhoods. Addressing our concerns in these environments has also been pretty straightforward. We put locks on our doors, added airbags to cars, and have police officers walk our streets. But there’s another place we want to feel safe, where addressing our need for security has been a little less straightforward — the internet.

One way we accomplish this is installing SSL certificates on websites. all in one websites offers free HTTPS SSL certificates on all websites. There is absolutely no reason why your sites should not be delivered on HTTPS, but most site builders do not include it and the setup process is usually incredibly complicated and very expensive. It couldn't be easier with all in one - and it's free!

Adding an SSL certificate essentially tells site visitors a few things:

  • The site they are on is actually the site the URL says it is.
  • The content on the site hasn’t been changed in any way by anybody other than the site owner.
  • Any information shared between the visitor and the site (through a contact form, reservation sign up, etc.) won’t end up in the hands of a third-party.
  • The visitor’s browser history isn’t being tracked by some unauthorized third-party.
  • Any payment gateways on the site are secure.
It’s pretty easy to see how this can lend to a small business’ credibility and put a potential customer at ease, especially if the SMB owner is running an online store. But if you think it’s not worth the effort or really that important, think again.

Website visitors are starting to notice when they don’t see that little green lock next to the URL, which indicates a site has an SSL certificate. This is especially true if the site visitor is using Chrome, as the browser is actively notifying people when they are on a website that isn’t encrypted. And just to round out the reasons why you should make the switch, Google views HTTPS as a positive ranking indicator for Search Engine Optimization. Your website ranking is higher when you have an SSL certificate.

The last thing you want is a warning from Google popping up on your website when a website visitor drops by. It can be very bad for business.

So what the heck is HTTPS, anyway? HTTPS stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure and it’s the secure version of HTTP. HTTPS indicates that all communications between a website and the browser to which it is connected are encrypted. In the past, HTTPS was primarily used on websites that enabled confidential online transactions such as online banking or shopping. Over time, however, it has become increasingly clear that all online connections need to be protected with HTTPS, since this protocol ensures that communications between a user and a website cannot be intercepted by hackers.

Enabling HTTPS on websites that collect passwords, payment info, or any other personal information is critical. Without it, confidential data that users input into these sites can be stolen. When a site isn’t HTTPS, hackers can intercept the connection, steal confidential data, and tamper with what a user sees on his or her screen. This means they can inject malicious ads, insert fake content, trick users into downloading malware and more. In short, even if a site doesn’t contain confidential information, having its communications with visitors intercepted can have negative consequences for the website and its brand.

HTTPS is important for another reason as well. More and more companies use HTTPS as a requirement for advanced features and technologies. So, if your website has features such as geolocation, push notifications and more, you’ll need to deliver the website over HTTPS in order for certain browsers to enable these features. In other words, HTTPS keeps your options open – for you and your customers.

In a world where all of us are increasingly relying on the web to buy and sell goods and services, there needs to be at least a baseline level of encryption to ensure that the information we share online, like our credit card numbers, home addresses, and phone numbers, are not ending up in the wrong hands.

all in one offers HTTPS as an easy-to-add option for free. All it takes is a few clicks and you can add an SSL certificate to a website when publishing. No need for messing around with web servers, creating a CSR, shopping around for a certificate authority, or jumping through hoops.

all in one websites is one of the only Google Preferred Website Builders that is fully aligned with the best practices for creating websites with the best possible load times. Your website will be optimized for super speed, providing the following benefits:

  • Viewers Spend More Time On Site: 70% Longer Sessions
  • Lower Bounce Rate: 35% Lower Bounce Rate
  • Higher Engagement: 60% More Pageviews
  • Competitive Advantage: 77% of Websites Take More than 10 Seconds to Load on Mobile
  • More Customer Conversions: 7% Less Conversions for Every Second It Takes to Load
Slow websites are the biggest issue facing the web today. Google has decided to use speed as a ranking factor. Google also will soon use a mobile-first index, making mobile + speed very important for success on the web. In addition to the importance Google places on it, speed is important for other reasons too. For example, we know sites that show users content quickly are much more likely to show engagement, conversion and lower bounce rates. 53% of mobile visits are abandoned if it takes them more than 3 seconds to load. In other words, if you’re running any paid advertising, half of your budget could go out the window because of a slow site.

Various industry initiatives, including Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) and Facebook Instant Articles, aim to speed up mobile pages. But the most important and broader issue is making standard web pages load and start rendering faster. This means that the user, especially the mobile user, sees the initial page displayed while more content is loaded in the background.

For these reasons, all in one decided to embark on a speed optimization project: to follow Google PageSpeed recommendations to make our sites load faster and score higher. We’ve made sure that all our sites now get a very high score on Google PageSpeed.

Google made PageSpeed a rank factor back in 2010, and while it may not have had a direct impact on Search Engine Optimization in times past, people and Google alike want the web to be faster for everyone — especially mobile viewers. PageSpeed has become very important.

Google New Industry Benchmarks:

  • Average Request Count should be fewer than 50
  • Average Page Weight Bytes Should Be Less Than 500KB
  • Average Speed Index Should Be Three Seconds Or Less
  • Average Time to First Byte Should Be Under 1.5 Seconds
These are the new benchmarks that Google has set, and the bar has been raised undoubtedly high. Since PageSpeed directly relates to user friendliness, and therefore conversion, it’s not hard to see why this metric has been gaining more attention.

The more studies Google does, the more they see that people want sites that load fast. As the main search engine of the world, Google has a lot of users to keep happy. Fast sites make for happy users. And making users happy makes Google happy too.

10 Incredible Stats About PageSpeed That You Should Know

Google isn’t the only one doing studies and measuring the effects of PageSpeed. Many others have added their findings to the topic. Here are just 10 of some of the most interesting facts and stats about PageSpeed.

1) Users spend 70% more time, and have 60% more page views, on websites that load quickly.

2) 77% of websites take more than 10 seconds to load on mobile.

3) 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.

4) As page time goes from 1s-5s probability of bounce increases by 90%.

5) 52% of online shoppers claim that quick page loads are important for their loyalty to a site.

6) When faced with a negative mobile shopping experience, 43% of consumers will go to a competitor’s site next.

7) Publishers whose mobile sites load in 5 seconds earn up to 2x more mobile ad revenue than those whose sites load in 19 seconds.

8) Sites that loaded in less that five seconds on mobile saw 70% longer sessions and 25% higher viewability than those that loaded at the current common average of 19 seconds.

9) PageSpeed can have a direct impact on your Adwords campaigns and Quality Score.

10) According to Google, “speed equals revenue.”

For the past 10 months, our amazing product team essentially stopped the presses so they could focus on one thing. It wasn’t a new feature. It wasn’t a new template design. It wasn’t even so they could fix bugs. No. It was for a much, much bigger reason than any of those. We put almost everything on hold so we could rebuild the responsive website builder in a way that would make site editing faster, the user experience more intuitive and, ultimately, you a more successful professional. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to your new website builder. Let’s dive in.

Rebuilt in React

For our fellow geeks out there, we thought it’d be a good idea to explain a little bit about how we rebuilt our responsive website builder and why this is such a big deal.

It’s important to note that this release is more than just skin deep. Yes, the builder looks a lot different (and we think better), but when we say we “rebuilt” it, we mean it. The new builder has been engineered using React, an open-source JavaScript library for building user interfaces. This Facebook-developed technology means the platform is much more robust and flexible. The drag-and-drop functionality feels smoother the editor now loads up to 40% faster than before.

But, perhaps most impressive and exciting, this particular improvement enables our product team to respond to feature requests much more quickly than ever before! We can also fix bugs in a fraction of the time it used to take, and we’re sure that’s something for everybody to be happy about.

Features You Asked For

“We value your feedback,” isn’t just some line we tell customers. And that’s because, in many ways, we’d be completely lost without you letting us know what kind of features and product enhancements you need to be successful. You are what drives us forward and we genuinely hope you never stop letting us know how we can improve.

So in that spirit, we’ve added a lot of new features, both big and small, in this release.

In the new responsive website builder, you’ll find:

  • New Layouts Options
  • More Color Overlays
  • A New Icon Widget
  • 22 More Fonts
  • Interpage Anchors
  • Custom Backgrounds Per Page
  • Video Backgrounds on Columns and Popups
  • Open Graph Support
  • A More Flexible Photo Gallery
  • And so much more!

All So You Can Build More Websites

If there was one theme behind all of these latest upgrades and enhancements, it was this — productivity. Our mission to provide professionals with the tools and resources they need to serve their small business clients is something we take very seriously, and we strive every single day to find ways to help you be more productive, more efficient and make more sales.

A large part of this effort goes toward providing you with the best website builder possible, but it’s not the only part. We’re also dedicated to delivering outstanding customer support,  keeping you in the know with up-to-date information and industry best practices, and further developing our services to ensure you have everything you need to be successful.

So here’s to the start of 2017 and another fantastic year working with all of you. We’ve already started working on some of our next big product releases and think you’re going to be very happy with everything we’ve got coming down the pipe. And, of course, feel free to send us any feedback you have on the new builder. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
